Mr. Umakanth Behera is a well-qualified and progressive shrimp entrepreneur from Mahadevpal, Balasore, Orissa. He is engaged in shrimp farming for the last 20 years. He is the pioneer in establishing a farm in Balasore, Odisha. Initially, he farmed Tiger shrimp (Penaeus monodon) the native shrimp species and ruling variety since the inception of commercial shrimp aquaculture in the late eighties. He has a brackish water farm of 31.5 acres having 57 ponds. He has strong linkages with state and central govt. organizations and is involved at the field level demonstrations of shrimps. He is not only a farmer also serving as a dealer in shrimp farming-related businesses such as feed and chemicals distribution.
He used the following shrimp health products from our company viz., SeedOne, GrowUp, Ecobeat, Macro-PS, B-Yuka 30, and Blue Bolt for his successful culture. Regular water and health quality monitoring was observed by the scientists through technicians, besides from time to time-on-site visits of Salem Microbes field staffs for technical guidance. The shrimps attained a marketable with an average body weight of 32 grams in a crop period of 91 days, which falls in 33 counts with an FCR of 1.1. The farmer harvested a crop of 3 tonnes of shrimps from an area of 3000m2. With proper technical guidance of Salem Microbes and Good Management Practices, he has achieved good results.
